Employee Time Management Systems and Tardiness

From an administrative standpoint, it is easy to identify trends, particularly in overtime and tardiness of our employees. Kristina HarfordOperations ManagerInfectious Disease Associates of Tampa BayFlorida USA Above is a statement from Kristina Harford who is the operations manager at Infectious Disease Associates of Tampa Bay. She’s talking about Time Clock MTS, which her company has been using as an employee time management system for several years. There’s no doubt that controlling tardiness of employees is a key role of any department supervisor or payroll department and a good staff clock in system should allow those same things to be recorded and monitored easily. What is Tardiness and is it a Problem? Tardiness is the delay between an employee starting work and when they should have started work. It’s also lateness during the work day, such as being late back from lunch, arriving at meetings late, and being late to customer appointments. In this article I’ll just be considering tardiness as “being late to work”. Is tardiness a problem? The answer is yes. In 2011 Careerbuilder suggested that tardiness was an important issue in the US labor market with 16% of employees late to work at least once per week and more than a quarter of employees late to work at least once a month. HR Magazine stated in 2005 that tardiness was costing the US economy more than $3 billion a year. More recently, in the much smaller British economy it has been suggested that employees being late to work is costing the British economy more than $14 billion per year and that the average amount of time... read more

Version 4.1.5 Released

I’m just uploading the latest release of Time Clock MTS, taking our time clock software to version 4.1.5. This new release adds one new feature, has improved job tracking performance, and fixes up a couple of minor bugs. Here’s a detailed list of the changes. When logged in as the timeclock administrator you can now right click on the employee list to show or hide disabled employees. If no employees are defined or visible (such as all employees are disabled and disabled employees are hidden) the software now provides a prompt to create employees using the Employee Maintenance menu. Significantly improved the loading speed of jobs. Expect a 2500-3000% speed improvement. Probably only noticeable if you’ve got a large collection of jobs that you’re tracking. Fixed up a display issue with displaying department folders while logged in as the Administrator. Fixed up an error that fired when the last employee in the employee list was deleted and departmental folders were displayed. Fixed a bug that created a spontaneous clock out for employees with no recorded data that were then disabled by the administrator. Note the term re-enable and disable was (from Version 4.1.6) changed to deactivate and reactivate... read more

User Question : Upgrading to the Time Clock MTS Network Edition

I got a question from a Time Clock MTS user a few days ago. They wanted to upgrade from the Stand Alone Edition of Time Clock MTS to the Time Clock MTS Network Edition. They’ve been using the single computer version for a while and wanted some detailed instructions on getting their new system working with more time clock computers. It was a good question and my answer was rather detailed so I thought it was worth sharing here. Here’s their question: Currently we have 1 desktop computer running the old single- user version of Time Clock. We have a total of 6 desktop PC’s running Windows 7 on them. We have a network setup were by all us can access each other’s desktop to share data or access networked printers. To access the single-user version of Time Clock, all office staff including the employee who uses the PC with Time Clock installed are required to physically walk up to this PC running Time Clock to log the start and end of our work day. This is disruptive to the aforementioned employee as he has to move out of the way from his desk to allow other office staff access to the Time Clock app. Therefore my objective is to install the network multi-user version of your Time Clock app on any one of our 6 desktop computers. Then have each staff user access the Time Clock app from their own desktop PC. So with this info I hope you can tell us how to proceed to setup and start using the network multi-user version, (if that is the... read more

What is the Time Clock MTS Stand Alone Edition

The Time Clock MTS Stand Alone Edition allows you, in the most simple terms, to track and report on the time clock information for up to 500 employees on one computer. All for the purchase price of $99 (US). Let’s look at what you get in more detail: How Many Computers Can You Install the Software On? You can install the Time Clock MTS Stand Alone Edition on one computer. The software you must install is the Time Clock MTS Administrator software which can be used by employees to clock in and out as many times as you need per day. The same software is also used by your time clock administrator to manage employees, run payroll reports, and adjust overtime and accrual settings. Please note, that just because you can only install the software on one computer it doesn’t mean that you have to keep your Time Clock MTS database on that computer. You can still (and probably should) move the database to your local network server where it will be backed up with all your other files. You do have regular backups don’t you? How Many Employees Can You Track? The Stand Alone Edition of Time Clock MTS can track from 1 to 500 employees. There’s no limit to how many times those employees can clock in and out every day. How Much Does it Cost? Are There Monthly or Annual Fees? Right now the stand alone edition of Time Clock MTS costs $99 (US). There are no on-going costs or subscription fees. In fact your purchase gives you a lifetime license to use the version of... read more
